The Village
Located in the heart of the Alps, in the lush Rhône plain, Saxon welcomes you with the diversity of our cultures and will make you rediscover a taste for authenticity in the heart of a region that displays flamboyant colours at certain times of the year. Wherever you come from, wherever you go, you will be surprised by the simple but warm welcome of its inhabitants.
The history of Saxon can be traced back to the year 1152, the date of the first written mention of the village. The term Saxon derives from the Latin “saxum” (rock) and refers to the famous “Pierre-à-Voir” which dominates the village. The village was settled from the south, from the Entremont district. So, for most of the Middle Ages, Saxon and the Bagnes valley formed a single political entity.
